April 2020:

The Art Island has teamed up with Stitch & Rivet to fundraise to pay makers to make masks to donate. Our initial goal of $1,250 is to purchase bulk fabric through Three Little Birds Sewing Studio and make and distribute 250 masks. Makers will be provided with materials and paid for their time. This keeps them working and helps to get masks to people who need them in our community.

To start, we will donate masks to the staff and clients at SOME (So Others Might Eat). They currently serve two hundred guests breakfast and lunch on a modified schedule every day. SOME also provide health care, job training, housing, and other basic needs. The Art Island is neighbors with SOME located in Ward 5.
If you are a skilled maker and would like to make a batch of masks email Stitch & Rivet here. Contact us here with any other questions. We will post updates on Instagram @the.art.island & @stitchandrivet and here on the website.

Any donation (through Venmo or Paypal) over $50 will receive a handwritten thank-you note and a PAUSE sticker. @pauseinplace is a collective of place-based artists, curators, and advocates creating and supporting socially-engaged art in our neighborhoods. Please include your address if you would like to receive this gift.
